A master of watercolour, John Yardley has captured a colourful snapshot of this momentous scene. The Armada de la Liberté was an impressive gathering of tall ships in 1994 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Normandy landings.
John Yardley was born in Beverley, Yorkshire in 1933. His mastery of watercolour is all the more impressive as he received no formal training. He became a full-time painter in 1986 and was elected to the Royal Institue of Painters in Watercolour in 1990.
He has exhibited extensively, both in London and the provinces.
