This idyllic scene of sheep seeking the cool shade of an oak tree on a country track is painted with the most attractive brushwork - with lovely areas of impasto and a subtle palette that captures the hazy heat of a summer's day.

John Henry Inskip, who also completed some interiors, was born and lived in Scarborough, Yorkshire. He was a member of Royal Society of British Artists and Fylingdales Group, also showing with the Royal Academy, the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool and The Royal Institute of Oil Painters. Sussex Cottages and The Bridge at Brandon were among his notable works. Rochdale Corporation acquired views of Whitstable and Walmer.
