This beautifully observed autumnal study shows the influence of the Pre-Raphaelites on the artist; the scene imbued with a stillness and air of reflective melancholia.

James Thomas Watts was born in Birmingham and attended King Edward's School before studying at the Birmingham School of Art. In his early career he was influenced by John Ruskin and the Pre-Raphaelites.

He exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Royal Institue of Painters in Watercolours. His work can be found in the Walker Gallery, Liverpool and elsewhere
