A very striking image of irises set before a distant horizon which gives the flowers a monumental appearance. The artist has employed great skill in capturing the diaphanous quality of the white iris petals.
Audrey Johnson was a painter in oil of still life and wild flowers, small and in meticulous detail. She was married to the artist Claude Harrison, their son is the the potter Tobias Harrison. Johnson studied at Harris Institute, Preston, and at Central School of Arts and Crafts. She exhibited with the Lake Artists' Society of which she was a member and regularly at RA Summer Exhibition. In 1991 she shared a show with her husband at Phoenix Gallery, Highgate. She lived in Cartmel Fell, Cumbria.
