Tom Robertson studied at the Glasgow School of Art and later in Paris under Benjamin Constant. He travelled extensively and achieved a Gold Medal at the Munich Exhibition, an Honorary Mention at the Paris Salon in 1904 and a Gold Medal in Nantes in 1910. His impressionistic style was used to great effect to capture the hazy light of landscapes in the the Loire, Venice and Northern Africa. 

 

He was a member of the Royal Society of British Artists and elected a member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in 1912.
